Shen Nong is said to have been an important Chinese Emperor who lived about 5000 years ago. He is considered the father of Chinese medicine and it is said that he tasted thousands and thousands of herbs to evaluate their medicinal value. He wrote the first book on herbs called “Classic on Herb Roots”, where he describes 365 herbs and categorizes them as medicinal herbs and poisonous herbs. In this book he also explains how tea acts as an antidote for more than 80 poisonous herbs. According to legend, one day Shen Nong was not feeling well because he had tasted hundreds of herbs that day and among them 72 herbs were poisonous. The wind brought him some leaves from a tea twig. The leaves fell into a pot where water was boiling. Shen Nong tasted the drink and immediately his body felt better. This is to understand how tea is often considered the solution for everything!
